FAQ – Common Questions
The complete guide to selecting the perfect floor transition for your home. Professional results made easy.
Choosing the right floor transition strip is essential for a professional-looking installation that’s safe, functional, and enhances your home’s appearance. The right transition protects your flooring investment, prevents tripping hazards, and creates seamless connections between different floor surfaces.

Consider Your Flooring Types
The first step is identifying what types of flooring you’re connecting. Different material combinations require specific transition solutions:
22 mil (Wear Layer): Refers to 22 thousandths of an inch of clear, protective coating on top. This determines scratch, stain, and scuff resistance. 22 mil is considered high-quality, durable, and suitable for heavy residential or commercial traffic.
8 mm (Overall Thickness): Refers to the total height of the plank, including the backing, core, and wear layer. An 8 mm plank is quite thick, generally providing better stability, comfort underfoot, and sound insulation

If installing on concrete substrates the use of anchors is recommended. Install wood or plastic anchors, per the manufacturer instructions, into subfloor where the screws will be used to secure the trim.
In addition to or in place of you may also use a heavy-duty general-purpose adhesive. For best adhesion and bond consider using a urethane-based adhesive. Follow adhesion manufacturer instructions and safety precautions. IMMEDIATELY REMOVE ANY EXCESS ADHESIVE FROM THE FACE OF THE PROFILE.

Here's a breakdown of key considerations:
1. Paint Selection:
100% Acrylic Latex Paint: Opt for a paint specifically formulated for interior PVC surfaces.
Light Colors: Avoid dark colors, as they can absorb heat and cause PVC to warp.
Light Reflective Value (LRV): Choose paints with an LRV of 55 or higher (Flat Black=0, pure white=100).
Specialized PVC Paints: Consider paints designed for plastic or UPVC surfaces, as they offer better adhesion.
2. Surface Preparation:
Clean Thoroughly: Wash, rinse, and allow the PVC trim to dry completely.
Scuff Sand: Lightly scuff-sand the surface with 220-grit sandpaper to improve paint adhesion.
Wipe Clean: Remove any sanding dust with a tack cloth or a clean, damp cloth.
Prime (Optional but Recommended): Apply a coat of acrylic latex primer designed for exterior PVC surfaces.

We have reached out to the manufacturer and their answer is,Yes, this item will work with peel and stick wall tiles. If the adhesive on the wall tile is not strong enough to create a secure bond to the anchor leg of our tile trim, you may want to add a thin bead of construction adhesive to improve surface contact. Please consult the tile manufacturer before adding the adhesive to ensure you use a compatible product to their particular PSA.
We have reached out to the manufacturer and their answer is,This trim is ideal for a shower application.
We have reached out to the manufacturer and their answer is,The great news is that there is no wrong answer! This trim is functional, but it's also a décor piece, meaning you can match the trim to your tile and have the trim blend or match the trim to your existing hardware to create a coordinating contrast to your tile. We've seen beautiful results in both design approaches.

We have reached out to the manufacturer and their answer is,Stain Gold is not yet available in corners, we expect it to be on shelf by late spring
We have reached out to the manufacturer and their answer is, THE 3/8" size is correct for this application
We have reached out to the manufacturer and their answer is,Sorry about the online typo. Thank you for calling it to our attention. We will correct that information. The product you referenced is in fact PVC. It can be used on a backsplash or behind the stove. We do not recommend trying to paint the PVC product.
It is possible to paint over mill finish aluminum trim, but it's crucial to use the right products and techniques to ensure a durable and long-lasting finish.
Here's a more detailed explanation:
Preparation is Key:
Before painting, properly clean and prepare the surface removing any natural aluminum oxidation..
Choose the Right Products:
Use a high-quality, exterior-grade paint specifically designed for metal, such as acrylic latex or polyurethane coatings recommended for aluminum
Etch Primer:
An etch primer is recommended for aluminum to enhance paint adhesion and durability.
Application:
Apply multiple thin, even coats of paint, allowing each coat to dry completely before applying the next.
Consider a Clear Sealant:
Applying a clear sealant after painting can add extra protection and enhance the durability of the painted finish.
We have reached out to the manufacturer and their answer is,Thank you for the interest in our product. We do not currently have corners available for the new Mineral Bronze Finish so you will need to miter cut.

**Preparing the Trim:**
1. **Clean the trim:** Use a degreaser or a mixture of mild dish soap and water to remove any dirt, grease, or oils. Rinse thoroughly and let it dry completely.
2. **Lightly sand:** Use fine-grit sandpaper (around 220-grit) to lightly scuff the surface. This will help the primer and paint adhere better. Wipe away any sanding dust with a clean cloth.
**Priming:**
1. **Choose a primer:** Use a metal primer specifically designed for aluminum. A self-etching primer is a good option as it helps create a stronger bond with the metal.
2. **Apply the primer:** Apply a thin, even coat of primer to the entire surface of the trim. Let it dry completely according to the manufacturer's instructions.
**Painting:**
1. **Choose a paint:** Use an acrylic latex paint or a paint specifically designed for metal. Choose a high-quality paint that is durable and moisture-resistant, especially if the trim will be used in a high-moisture area like a bathroom.
2. **Apply the paint:** Apply thin, even coats of paint, allowing each coat to dry completely before applying the next. Two or three coats may be necessary for full coverage.
3. **Finishing:** Once the final coat of paint is dry, you can apply a clear sealant for added protection, especially if the trim will be exposed to moisture or wear and tear.
By following these steps and using the right materials, you can successfully paint the silver trim white to match your desired aesthetic.
We have reached out to the manufacturer and their answer is,Unless you have an unusual design, a more typical profile would be to use the L-Shape profile. The T-Shape is meant as a transition between two sufaces. Typical use would be on a floor joining to similar height surfaces, or on the wall as an accent piece.
We have reached out to the manufacturer and their answer is,They do not come in Black at this time for our Square Shape profiles. The profile is not offered in black as well.
Thank you for your recent inquiry with The Home Depot. While the finish will be similar, it will not be exact, and antique bronze is not an available trim through Trim Master. We appreciate your business and look forward to serving you in the future.
We have reached out to the manufacturer and their answer is,Thank you for the inquiry on this profile. for a 12.5mm size tile you would require a 1/2" size profile. At the current time this profile is only offered in a 3/8" size.
We have reached out to the manufacturer and their answer is,Silver is a mill finished product and is not anodized before shipments. Satin Silver is a clear anodized product that gives the profile a uniform clear, softer satin look as well as addtional protection against salt water or other chemicals. Anodizing increases the products corrosion and wear resistance. Both products are acceptable for interior applications. Satin Silver would be a better choice for exterior applications.
We have reached out to the manufacturer and their answer is,The top width of this product is 9/16" Leave at least 3/16" spacing and fill the void with silicone or adhesiv
We have reached out to the manufacturer and their answer is, Thank you for considering our products and shopping the Home Depot. Inside and outside corners will be available after for shipments in Jan 2023
We have reached out to the manufacturer and their answer is,The long leg that is visible after installation and covers the stair edge and part of the riser is 2" (inches). Tha Anchor leg that is set in mortar with tile covering it is 1.2"(inches)
We have reached out to the manufacturer and their answer is,The size of the tile trim should be consistent with the height of the tile. So in this case the correct choice is 3/8" tile trim. When setting the trim, the top edge should be level to slightly lower (1/16") than the height of the trim
We have reached out to the manufacturer and their answer is,Thank you for your purchase. We are sorry to hear that you had this issue. It was almost certainly damaged in transit. It would be our preference to ship you a replacement order. If you would contact our customer service department we rush you another order at no charge.
We have reached out to the manufacturer and their answer is,5/16" Tile Trim would be the choice for floor applications and should be fairly flush to slightly lower than tile height of the tile. This is basic recommendation for floors. But since this is likely a wall or backsplash installation you might consider a 3/8" product which is what you have referenced in this question. There is only 1/16" of a difference between the two sizes, which gives you a little more flexibility on making sure it is flush with the tile. Depending on the installer, the final height of the tile can vary slightly depending on the depth of the thinset or how hard you set the tile. Either size would be acceptable in this case.
We have reached out to the manufacturer and their answer is, Assuming you are not using thin-set for the tile. If you are using either a Peel & Stick or the Custom Building Products SimpleMat for the backsplash then it is okay to use adhesive. . If that is the case you may use a general purpose adhesive to secure the trim. Be sure to coat both sides of the anchor leg. Immediately wipe any excess adhesive off of the profile and finish.
We have reached out to the manufacturer and their answer is, Yes it can be used in shower. Please make sure to IMMEDIATLYYY WIPE off any excess grout or mortar off this finish after installation
We have reached out to the manufacturer and their answer is, The total width including the anchor leg (that goes in the thin set) is 1.5" inches. The width of just the visible profile edge is about 1/2" inch
We have reached out to the manufacturer and their answer is, Yes you mayuse it. As a transition but it must be installed with the tile
We have reached out to the manufacturer and their answer is, yes this is an appropriate use of this transition
We have reached out to the manufacturer and their answer is,
You would probably be better off with the 5/16" reducer. If not then make sure the mortar bed is a little higher so edge of the trim is only slightly lower the tile
We have reached out to the manufacturer and their answer is, Shape profile is used when you prefer to reveal more of the profile as a décor accent versus the L-Shape or when you are installing tile along a corner.

silver is a brushed finish, similar to stainless steel
Satin silver is also a brushed finish it has a light brown tinge in color. Like some of the plumbing fixtures..
I install the edging using the same adhesive that I use for the tiles, and then let it dry. Then I install the tiles on top of it. This method is especially useful behind the stove, where there is no countertop to hold things straight. When I install the edging I make sure to enbed it into the adhesive as far as it will go, and then scrape off all the adhesive from the top of the tile edging flange so that the tiles have a flat surface to stick on. After it dries it would easily prevent any tile from sliding down while the tile adhesive cures.
We have reached out to the manufacturer and their reply is, The top of the T (which is the visible profile of the trim after application) is 9/16" wide
We have reached out to the manufacturer and their reply is,
"The discoloration is likely permanent. It is important when installing anodized finishes to immediately wipe the exposed edge. Please contact our customer service. As a gesture of good will they may send you replacement product at not cost. Cement is a widely used ingredient in products used in construction including mortars and grouts. A corrosive alkali, calcium hydroxide is liberated as water is added to the lime present in the cement mixture. Skin contact for prolonged periods can produce deep chemical burns. This same caustic chemical reaction can damage the surface of tile trims.
When using tile trim, floor trims or working near anodized aluminum thresholds the end users or installers must be aware of proper care and maintenance. Anodized finishes have been used for decades to protect aluminum and the technology for anodizing has improved over time creating tougher, longer lasting finishes. Although this is the case, the caustic ingredients contained in cementitious products such as mortar and grout, can cause discoloration on anodized surfaces. It is important that any residue of mortar and/or grout be immediately removed to prevent damage to the finish.
In addition to immediately removing mortar or grout residue do not use cleaning agents with hydrochloric and hydrofluoric acid. Aggressive or abrasive cleaners should not be used on anodized aluminum as they may scratch the surface. Use a gentle household cleaner or simply water.

We have reached out to the manufacturer and their answer is,All of the Custom labeled tile trims that include an integrated grout spacer ensure a uniform joint of 1/16" - 1/8" (1.5 - 3 mm).
We are in process of developing our own corners which will be coming in 2020.
Currently we are unable to find Corner Pieces of this color and make on our sight.
We appreciate your business and look forward to serving you in the future.
I'd say no.
I believe HD SKU# is 1001-558-350 but I would double check with Home Depot.
Not exactly the same, but it achieves a similar look. I considered using a bullnose on the curb of my new shower, ultimately went with larger tiles and trim pieces to reduce the number of joints. Ultimately, we are very satisfied with the look. We think it even dresses it up a bit.
If you need to have the trim set before you can start setting tile, it might work to then set in the trim first, then set all tile afterwards at your pace.
Use the end that you will most easily see as the start, put the cuts in an area that isn't obvious. If you just want to hold the edge in place, try that 3M product, #77.
3/8" is the height of the product from the base of where the tile would sit to the top of the metal. 98.5" inches refers to the overall length of the product.
1.0There is a special metal trim made for the outside corners. I have attached an image. Home Depot carries some of these-may be special order. See search: https://www.homedepot.com/s/metal+outside+corner?NCNI-5
2.0You may be able to use a drywall corner bead and mortar it in under the tile.
3. I have also found a bullnose blade useful for profiling corners. Home depot has one- you would not need trim. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Archer-USA-6-in-x-3-8-in-Demi-Bull-Nose-Profile-Wheel-for-Tile-Edge-Profiling-EPW6001/204493003

But If you have a window, then the edge/side will butt up against the window frame, and you may not need it there, since this is made to be the bottom lip/resting point, or cover the edge of the tiles when you either don't have any edge pieces, or don't want to use them.
1.) I cut away a "v" shape on the flat portion and bent it into a 90 degree angle. This did't work well at all, it created a gnarled appearance.
2.) I then plugged in my miter saw and cut it at a 45 degree angle, I then used tiny bit of caulk and the corner was pretty much perfect.
Hope that helps!
